UCML is pleased to announce the date for its Summer Plenary 2023, which will be held on Friday 14th July 2023, at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies (School of Advanced Study, University of London). This will be an in-person event.

The programme for the plenary is as follows:

  • 10am-12: Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Chancellor’s Hall
  • 12-1pm: Lunch
  • 1-2.30pm: Parallel Sessions:
    • (1) Plenary Session: ‘Translation and Interpreting Studies in the UK Today: Humanistic and Economic Value of the Discipline and the Profession in an Automated World’ in Chancellor’s Hall. Speakers:
      • Begoña Rodríguez (Chair of panel, UCML Translation and Interpreting Committee member)
      • Bernardette Holmes (representing the new NCLE)
      • Raisa McNab (ATC, representing language service providers)
      • Tanya Riordan (Leader of the PGCE MFL programmes at University of Portsmouth)
      • Callum Walker (representing APTIS and T&I studies)
      • John Worn (representing CiOL)
    • (2) Special Interest Group Meetings. SIG members are invited to hold meetings using rooms G7 and G16.
  • 2.30-3pm: Break
  • 3-4pm: ‘Revitalising Language Learning – the New NCLE Initiative’ in Chancellor’s Hall. Speakers:
