The University Council of Modern Languages joins the international community in condemning the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.
Our organization exists to promote the study of languages and cultures, including Ukrainian, Russian, and the other languages of the region. As linguists, we are conscious of the power of words to promote cooperation and dialogue among peoples. As scholars of culture and history, we reject the historical distortions advanced by the Russian government in justification of the war against Ukraine. We deplore the use of violence and stand with the people of Ukraine, and with the opponents of war everywhere.
