The Open University School of Languages and Applied Linguistics has developed a free toolkit, ‘Moving your language learning online’. The toolkit supports language teachers from other Higher Education institutions who are new to online teaching or have only recently had to adapt to online teaching in light of the Covid-19 situation. The toolkit consists of a series of help sheets, discussing the basic principles of online language teaching: from creating an online classroom to maintaining motivation or developing assessment strategies for online teaching.

To launch the toolkit, we are organising an online workshop in partnership with the University Council of Modern Languages. We will present the toolkit and provide opportunities for colleagues from across UK universities to ask questions, have discussions and share their own ideas and examples of good practice about online language learning and teaching.

The event will be relevant to all university language teachers, regardless of their level of expertise in online teaching. If you have limited or no experience, you will learn basic principles of online language teaching. If you are more experienced, you will be able to join in discussions, share your experience with others and exchange ideas.

The workshop will take place online on 30 October 2020, from 2 – 3.30 pm. To attend, please register here. The workshop is open to all university language teachers and is free of charge.
