The UCML Early Career Academics Special Interest Group, launched at the 2020 Summer Plenary, has put in place a support network for ECAs. This network runs two mentoring schemes: a one-off mentoring scheme for smaller, individual tasks like fine-tuning a conference paper, and a year-long mentoring scheme. UCML recognises that the current climate for ECAs is extremely challenging, especially in the current climate, and these schemes are designed by ECAs for ECAs, with a view to offering mentoring where precarious colleagues may not have access to this.
The Year-long mentoring scheme will ordinarily run from September to September, but exceptionally will launch this year from January to September. There is an application process which will enable the network to best match mentors with mentees. Prospective mentees are invited to apply using this form by noon on December 18th 2020.
Colleagues with any questions about this scheme are invited to contact the coordinator, Dr Hannah Scott (ecasn.contact@gmail.com). Any established academics willing to act as mentors are also welcome to get in touch.
